Fully Listed: London Stock Exchange

The London Stock Exchange’s main market is one of the largest and most international stock exchanges in the world, with over 1,600 companies from 60 countries currently listed. The market offers companies the choice of a primary or secondary listing and a number of listing options, including equity, debt, and depository receipts.

Responsibility for the approval of prospectuses and admission of companies to the main market lies with the UK Listing Authority (UKLA), a division of the Financial Services Authority (FSA). The Stock Exchange is responsible for admission to trading of companies to the main market. Accordingly joining the main market involves two parallel processes; a company applies for its securities to be admitted to the Official List through the UKLA and the listing is dependent on those securities gaining admission to trading on the main market through satisfying the Stock Exchange’s Admission and Disclosure Standards.
